Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Threaded Roots for?
Threaded Roots is a private parent coaching and child skill-building practice rooted in behavioral science. We provide direct, practical support for families who want to focus on:
-
Daily Routines: Easing stress around mornings, bedtimes, mealtimes, and transitions.
-
Independent Living Skills: Building your child's self-care habits, personal responsibility, and autonomy.
-
Communication & Social Skills: Helping your child express needs, navigate peer dynamics, and build relationships.
-
Household Environment: Managing challenging behaviors and creating a calmer, more predictable home.
-
Understanding Behavior: Decoding what drives your child's emotional reactions beneath the surface.
-
Parental Clarity: Aligning daily parenting decisions with your long-term family values.
Does my child need a formal diagnosis to work with you?
No. Behavior support is open to any family needing support. You do not need a medical diagnosis, doctor's referral, or spot on an insurance waitlist to get started. We focus on real-world tools and practical action for your home today.
What if my child does have a diagnosis?
We welcome diagnosed children! Knowing a diagnosis helps us uncover the underlying neurological root causes behind behaviors allowing us to select the most effective support strategies. Our focus remains on the actual behaviors occurring in your daily life.
Are you a private-pay practice?
Yes. Threaded Roots operates as a private-pay practice. Payment is due at the time of service, and rates are transparently shared prior to booking.
Do you accept health insurance or provide super bills?
Threaded Roots is strictly a direct private-pay practice and is not in-network with any insurance plans. While we do not bill insurance directly, we are happy to provide itemized superbills upon request that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement is never guaranteed, and insurance companies require a formal medical diagnosis to process superbill claims.
How do you approach behavior and emotional support?
Instead of trying to eliminate discomfort or force compliance, we focus on helping parents and children build emotional flexibility. We help you understand what is driving a behavior, make space for hard emotions, and take practical, values-based action rather than reacting out of frustration or exhaustion.
Do you work directly with children, parents, or both?
Both. Services are customized based on your goals.
Parent Coaching focuses on real-time problem-solving, routine design, and communication tools.
Child Skill-Building uses individualized and interest driven, 1:1 sessions to build daily living skills, emotional awareness, self-regulation, and coping skills.
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions take place in-office located in Lake Stevens or virtually. Office location is provided when first sessions are scheduled. Virtual coaching is available to support families remotely from the comfort of home.
Can you help with IEP support or school coordination?
Yes. While I do not perform on-site school observations, I provide behind-the-scenes educational support. This includes reviewing IEP/504 plans, preparing you for school meetings, and aligning home and school strategies with your child's educational team.
What does a typical session look like?
During parent coaching, we target your most pressing challenge that week and build simple, low-effort strategies you can implement immediately. For child sessions, we use play and natural interactions to build rapport, emotional regulation, and practical skills.
How long will we need to work together?
Duration depends entirely on your family's goals. Some parents want short-term guidance to resolve a specific routine, while others prefer ongoing coaching as new growth stages arise. You control how long we work together.
